Good question – the article provides much food for thought, not the least whether inventions are used for positive or negative purposes. Consider the slow but sure move towards ‘smarter cities’ as the thought provoking presentation by Carlo Ratti, will show. He is director of the SENSEable City Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), In explaining the concept of "smart city" Carlo Ratti cites examples such as data provided automatically by users of public transport in real time, being used to optimize mobility; smart cycles which decrease your carbon footprint and store energy, buildings created by flowing water, consumable products tracked all the way to rubbish sites across the world and perhaps most surprising of all a reminder of where and who you acquire your computer from – it could be a two way mirror into your own home!
